I needed a hood to go with a jacket I like. Not a hoodie, just the hood – the jacket is fitted and very cosy without any other layers.

I chose the Simple Knit Hood (Ravelry link) by Lia Lykke (designer’s Insta). I made it with Lion Brand Feels Like Butta, held double with leftover Exquisite, and 5mm needles.

I didn’t get the cast on right – you need to pick up stitches and as we know, that’s not my forte. So there’s a visible seam across the top of the head – I ploughed on regardless.

At least the seam is nice and regular!

I knitted for a good distance before joining up at the bottom of the face, as I wanted a really roomy hood, then after joining just knitted till I ran out of Feels Like Butta. So there’s less length at the bottom of the hood than in the pattern, in exchange for a larger hole for the face.

It does exactly what I want – I haven’t tried it out in cold weather yet, and I’m not sure how well it would stand up to rain… But I’m pleased with the project and it kept me busy for a day or two!

Has the look of a rather large balaclava- will keep your ears warm though

That’s exactly what it is! It doesn’t look great on its own but should do the intended job 😊

It turned out great. The seam looks like a design element.

Thank you! Your right, it’s nice and even, could easily be an intentional visible seam 😊
