Years ago, I made a version of Morticia (Ravelry link) by Andi Satterlund (Designer’s site).

I didn’t do it justice on a number of levels, most predominantly by picking up stitches poorly round the neckline, and creating my own crochet shoulders and ad hoc lace sleeves.

The end result was a garment that I wore once. The poufy shoulders and ribbon I’d threaded through to hide those picked up stitches just weren’t my style. Plus the neckline didn’t sit right – looks like not enough decreases, or decreases in the wrong places, or something. So it went in a box.

You can see the ribbon here! A decent fix, or so I thought at the time…

But now I’m unraveling to reclaim the yarn. After several hours of work, I’m getting there – much of that time was spent trying to figure out how I’d made the sleeves. Turns out they were knit flat then seamed before being erratically lashed on to the shoulders.

I’ve been more liberal than usual with the scissors (read: more impatient with the process) so have more, smaller balls of yarn to use. However, my intent is to make a third Promenade, which may well include cutting yarn between stripes, so I’m not too bothered about that.

I have a skein of Malabrigo lace on the way to pair up with the plain black, and I’m excited to get to the knitting part!

I’ve added this post to the Unraveled Wednesday linkup, with thanks to Kat for hosting

Thank you Kat! I’m on an unravelling streak… Which sounds a bit unhinged when I type it out 😂

One of the great things about knitting is that most of the time yarn can be unraveled and reclaimed for another project. I have a sweater that really needs to be taken out. You may have inspired me to get started – soon.

Agreed! I donate a lot of things but if I think the yarn could suit me better in another guise, out it comes.

Good for you unraveling a sweater you won’t wear and repurposing it into something you will use :)

Thanks! It’s not doing anyone any good by sitting in that box…

The reclaimed yarn looks good! I’m hoping with you that it finds its happy destiny with Promenade. :)

Exactly – and so comfy to wear. I think after recent misadventures with fit, I’m very keen to make something I know I’ll be able to wear!

Well it looks like it was an awesome piece but great you are harvesting the yarn to make something you like better :-)
