Continuing my quest for quick donation knits, I wanted a simple but still interesting scarf pattern.
I’ve made a couple of scarves on the bias and I love how they look, and the way they drape. It’s just a tiny bit more elevated than a standard garter stitch, don’t you think? And since I’d just made a hat on the bias… well, it all made sense.
I used the same yarns as for the hat, an aran alpaca and a dk acrylic held together.

I didn’t use a pattern for this – it’s just:
c/o your preferred number – I did 25 – with one strand of DK and one aran held together, 6.5mm needles
RS rows: K1, K2tog , K to last three stitches, K fb next stitch, K1
WS rows: K all
Continue until desired length and cast off.
I knitted until I had used up a whole 100g skein of the alpaca and called it good. It produced a narrow and short-ish scarf that will go round the neck once, with the ends covering any gap left by a coat collar. It took just under four hours start to finish. Another time I’d cast on 30 for a bit of extra width.
Then I had enough leftovers to make some matching hundred-minute mitts – I knitted them at the same time so I could split the alpaca in half and use it equally across the two. So behold, my matching set!
