I posted a quick snap of this project on Sunday and asked if the colours rang any bells for anyone.

The answer is that they’re all taken from (or adjacent to) the classic Doctor Who scarf! Click to see a photo of me with Tom Baker himself, which is a prized possession, though not as prized as the actual scarf itself.
I pulled out all the odds and ends left over from my many scarves, as well as some that had been put aside as not screen-accurate enough, and some that were similar and in small amounts that needed used up. Finally I can use these bronze shades that were too orange for my liking (but still work nicely with the other colours).

I’ve been thinking about Sea Glass since October when it was recommended in a comment, and once the idea of making it Who themed came to mind I literally could not wait to get started. I had cast on for socks but they were unceremoniously put aside while I skipped off to weigh yarns, to make sure I had enough for a full sweater.
The size I’m making calls for 590g (grams, not yards) and I have over 700g here so should be all set. The amounts are roughly evenly spread, and while I won’t use up every scrap, it’ll make a nice dent. I chose purple for the neck and I hope to also have enough for cuffs and hem – purple is my favourite, and also has the most stripes in the scarf so will feature most often in the sweater.
I’m following the scarf pattern to get the order of the colours. Each colour is used for two rows, in combination with the one before/ after. Since it doesn’t have the distinctive irregular stripes, it’s not immediately obvious what the colour palette is inspired by. But if you know, you know – I love that it’s a subtle homage but will also be the most colourful and least subtle item of clothing I own.
We’re visiting my in-laws for Christmas, which is a seven and a half hour drive. Since I don’t do any of the driving, that’s aaaaaaall knitting time, my friends. I’m loving working on it, even though I’ve lost a good handful of stitch markers to the passenger seat already. I have plenty more stitch markers. On with the knitting!
