This pattern has been in my favourites since September 2021 – four and a half years. I finally found the yarn for it on my trip to Bristol, wound it into cakes, and got going!

First garter section

So far it’s been a great pattern, clear and easy to follow. I’ve also found the knitting easy to read which is good news because I’ve definitely gotten lost a few times and had to fudge things a bit. Being able to understand the stitches below has made that largely successful.

I slightly regret being so literal with the rainbow colours. I love a rainbow but the original pattern colours are very classy and a bit more refined than where I’ve ended up.

Aren’t those rows of Vs enchanting though? The rainbow stitch is easy and rhythmical to work. The bulk of the shawl will now be more rainbow, but I have a short length of garter first. I may add extra garter to the end to use up my yarn, if there’s extra. I’m just finishing up the first skein (of two) now.

This is Cloudbreak (Ravelry link) by Melanie Berg (designer’s site). I’m making it in fingering weight Partridge Yarns, dyed with nettles (other info unavailable because I threw out the label!) and WYS Signature 4 ply. I’m using a 3.25mm needle as suggested by the pattern, and am only deviating by using 5 contrast colours instead of 12.

Mmm, I love those V’s in the rainbow also! Gorgeous! And I do so love garter stitch, it is so squishy and warm to wear!

I get bored knitting it, but it is so soft and cosy ๐Ÿ˜Š
