Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four

Hooray it is finished!

Then (on a very grey June day)
Just off the needles
Now!

I got a lot of extra length after a soak and block – I used wires and pins to stretch it out. For the stripes I just wanted to even out the width, and for the lace I wanted to let the stitches bloom, by stretching both length- and width-ways. It started at 52 inches along one side and ended up at 79, so even though the pictures don’t show it at all, it grew over a foot.

I did give it a light steam while it was still on the board, which did the job of stopping it springing back when the wires came out. I also think steam adds to the softness and drape, though I may be imagining that…

Before
After

It’s a lovely big wrap, with great drape and movement. I took several pictures of me wearing it to try to demonstrate this.

My wings are like a shield of steel

While the stripes were slow-going, the end result is lovely. It would work in loads of different colour combinations,

As a reminder, this is the Lilli Pilli Wrap (Ravelry link) by Ambah O’Brien (Designer’s site). I used Sirdar Country Classic 4 Ply in Teal, Mint Green and Burgundy with 3.75mm needles, as suggested by the pattern. I added repeats to use up all the yarn.

Oh wow! I love it in all its blocked glory! Beautiful! The colors are perfection! I am adding Lilli Pilli to my queue… it is just gorgeous and I am pretty sure I have yarns that are just waiting to picked for it!

Nicely done! I just love the magic that blocking does for lace.

Wow that is a lovely wrap! When it is just photographed by itself it is nice but when it is on a person it becomes really awesome!

Thanks! I think it’s hard to judge the scale of it until you see it on a person, then you realise how cosy and wrappable it really is.

I just learned the WOW of steaming a blocked item. Totally improves softness and drape.

Thank you! It’s so comforting, I do favour a portable blanket and this fits the bill. Just need to get it in the post (still!)

My goodness it’s huge, what a gorgeous piece, and as you say it has lovely drape. It is way bigger than I’d imagined, I love it.

Yeah you only see the scale of it once it’s on a person! I’m very pleased 😊
