My partner G asked if I would make them a bolero.
We proceeded to then have a discussion about they meant by bolero, and to rummage about on Ravelry until we found Rave Sleeves (Ravelry) by marij j.
It was exactly what G was looking for. It’s designed for sport weight, but I decided to use the tape yarn I had in stash, held double. It has a cottony feel and appearance which I thought would work well.

It’s challenging to work with, being easy to split, and holding double exacerbated that. I also didn’t read the pattern right and so the mesh isn’t perfectly as written – but it seems forgiving. I’m telling myself that it’s got a slightly punk vibe, so any imperfections are going to fit with that.
However, with that said… You can see on the left raglan a fairly obvious error – maybe I can duplicate stitch that into oblivion? And there’s a couple of inches where I dropped a stitch, or possibly two, and couldn’t figure out how to pick them up.

I’m waiting for G to try it on so we can see about the fit. It’ll also give me the chance to see how obvious those mistakes are, and whether unraveling is necessary to fix them up.
On my last project with this yarn, Obsidian, I found that the section knitted on bigger needles grew a lot after blocking. So I think there will be some growth – though probably less with the lace stitches than with the garter stitch of that project. At the minute the mesh is quite dense – maybe this is the time that I block the garment before adding the sleeves!
