Part One

This was a quick one! It took a week in total, during which time I mostly stayed focused, with only occasional forays into other WiPs. It’s a really compelling crochet project, with a very high ‘just one more row’ factor. It’s all chains and DCs, so very easy to make, and the yarn does a lot of the work in it looking so good when it’s done.

Before blocking…
… and after

Speaking of yarn – I used every last bit of the grey, and have just 5g left of the Jewelspun. For the grey, I judged that there was enough for one final, single crochet round… and I was about six stitches short! I used a bit of scrap grey to finish it off, rather than unravel the whole final row and try to gain it back (for example by doing fewer stitches in the points of the star). You can’t tell unless you’re really looking. And why would you?

A new resident for the scrap jar

I made 14 rounds, plus the centre star – that’s one more than the picture in the pattern. I used a larger hook than recommended, to suit the yarn, and my finished blanket is 46″ across,  compared to the pattern’s 38″. A good lap blanket or baby blanket size. A total of 30 ends to weave in, which didn’t really take that long in the end. It rarely does – the thought of doing it is far worse than the actual doing of it, as with so many things.

It’s living on the back of the couch right now, and I’m still enjoying admiring the colours and the crisp shape. If the right recipient happened along, I’d gift it – if not, it’s a welcome addition to the house.

This is Star Blanket (Ravelry link) by Bernat (link to free pattern on Yarnspirations). I used a 5mm hook, Sirdar Jewelspun in Nordic Noir (195g), and Knitting Essentials cotton in grey (150g).

I have added this post to the Unraveled Wednesday linkup, with thanks to Kat for hosting.

It looks fantastic. I can’t find the scrap grey. What a treasure.

Nice. I would not look for those unmatched grey stitches. That would be rude. Love those free patterns put out by yarn companies. I just finished a shawl from a Premier Yarn Designs pattern, available on their site.

This is such a lovely blanket!! Way to play yarn chicken with your grey yarn, and nice save with the scrap one! You’re right, no one would be looking for it anyway. With my current project, I’m wondering if the current size is good enough, or if I’ll need to try some mix-n-matching of yarns for a final round–not looking to play yarn chicken! :)

It’s like stress – a little yarn chicken is motivating, but too much just isn’t enjoyable!

Ha! I played a little yarn chicken with my latest FO, too, with the same result as you! Who’s gonna know?? Your blanket looks great.

Nobody will ever know as long as we don’t mention it on the Internet 😁

This is really so lovely (stripes are just so compelling, aren’t they?) Beautifully done! I don’t remember… was this gift crocheting or is this a keeper? Thanks for joining in with us Unraveler’s today!

It’s a keeper! Unless a perfect recipient pops up, you know how it is.

I’ve been wanting to make one of these for a while and you’ve inspired me to get some more yarn (yes, not really necessary but still!) to make one!
