I have a big project bag that I use for, well, big projects. It has pockets!
The downside to that is the accumulation of odds and ends in there, leading to ‘where’s my 4mm circular?!’ rages until I remember that I sometimes just tuck things into the pocket instead of returning them to their home.
I snapped a quick shot of the pocket contents one evening – some of them are supposed to live in the bag, but others have just been put there ‘for now’…

Resident items:
- Pen (there’s a notebook in the body of the bag)
- Nail file (catchy nails and knitting are not friends)
- Crochet hook (for dropped stitches)
- Stitch holders
- Tapestry needle (there should be a whole tub of these in the bag, but that’s an item I tend to lose track of easily… I blame the Borrowers)
Temporary items:
- 4.5mm needle tips on 2m black cable (that’s my ‘trying on’ cable)
- 6mm circular needle
- 4mm circular needle
- 4mm cable needle (that’s been in there for a long while, since Morvarch I think!)
- Two scraps of grey yarn (from my Broken Glass sweater – they look like they’ve been measured out for sleeves but never used)
What are the permanent features of your project bags, and what ends up sneaking in (or out of) there?
