Part One

So I may have made an enormous jumper? I was basing my stitch count somewhere between age 3 and 4 and I think I went off piste.

You can’t really tell the size until you see the next pic…

We’re going to call it slouchy and cosy and oversized. Plus the benefit of it being a gift for a child is that they will definitely grow, and hopefully even grow into it.

Part of what’s throwing me is the neckline – it’s so much wider than the skull and crossbones neckline. But perhaps this is more of a boatneck situation. The length… well, who doesn’t occasionally like to wear a tunic?

For size comparison – width and sleeves are similar but neckline, length and sleeve width are pretty different!

I’m glad I added the row of dinos round the yoke, they’re super cute. I forgot about not catching floats in the same place every row, so there’s still visible ribbing there, but I suspect only I will be concerned about that. And it was much improved by a wash and light steam.

The final sweater weighs 170g, and my current stash is now at 8.5kg – first kilo down! If I keep going at this rate I’ll be about the 3kg mark by the end of the year. Assuming I don’t see any beautiful yarn that I *need*, of course…

As a reminder, this is a mix of the Dino Sweater pattern (Ravelry link) by Julie Jaeken (designer’s site), and the Panda Sweater pattern (Ravelry link) by Stine Hoelgaard (Hobbii link). Dino for pattern, panda for construction.

I am wondering if there is a way to snug up that neck a bit? I have knit hats where the ribbing did not “rib” at all and I solved the problem by threading some elastic thread on the inside of the band. But perhaps you could add some crochet to snug it up! Otherwise, it is adorable!

I keep thinking of redoing it with thicker yarn, but not quite getting round to it… 😄

That dino sweater is super cute! And yes, that gives the child a little room to grow and still keep it!

The dino sweater is sooo cute. I do hate boatnecks. Mine all end up falling off one shoulder which is not a good look for someone my age (with wrinkles and grey hair). I end up sewing up part of the neck on each side creating a small seam. Now I know to avoid them.

The dinos are just adorable!! I wouldn’t mind gifting larger sizes for growing children, either, but if you still do, would you want to lightly felt it to slightly reduce the size?

It’s 100% acrylic so I feel like that’s not really an option – but thank you for thinking of it!
