I am really delighted with this blanket. I love how easy it was to make, how colourful it is, the mix of textures, and that it used up loads of my cotton stash! That takes me to a total of 647g used this year. Not an enormous amount but a great start.

Before blocking
After blocking

I started out intending to make a foundation row of single cricket for the border, followed by one row of double crochet. Once I got to that, I wanted another row of double – then another. With the c2c pattern using a lot of multiples of three, this seemed appropriate.

Comparing before and after pics, I think this was the right choice. I think you can hardly see the squares that are smaller than they’re meant to be. A little blocking helped with this, of course, but I think the border evened everything out nicely.

Some of the yarns were different weights, and you can see that they’re having to stretch a little further to be the and size as the others. But I actually like the variety.

I’ve thought quite a few times about making a blanket that features different textures – in some of my more far fetched daydreams I even consider using twine for a square. Until I get to thinking that through more, this is a nice nod to the idea.

See the different textures with the different yarns?

I smile every time I look at it. I hope the baby likes it – though they won’t be born until April so I’m way ahead of the game!

Thank you again! Quite a different vibe from the skull jumper but equally valid.

I think it’s important to feel comfortable doing a broad range of projects. Like, how boring if all you ever felt like you could make were white scarves? Life is short, make all the fun things. 😉

Isn’t it interesting? It’s fun to make, too, if you like crochet. Very compelling – high ‘just one more row’ factor 😊

Really very pretty and perfect for baby. I wouldn’t have noticed the size differences if you hadn’t mentioned them.

You know, if I wasn’t blogging I might never have noticed myself! It’s the taking of photos that makes me spot the inconsistencies. But genuinely delighted by the end result.
