Part One

Friends, I haven’t worked from a chart for ages, and I have been having a Time! I kept having to go back and re-knit after reading the chart backwards or missing bits out. On one particularly memorable occasion I exclaimed ‘oh no, the teeth!’, much to G’s consternation.

I went back and got the teeth, then made my way half way up the eyes, only to realise I should have been decreasing for the arm holes for the past five rows… Back we went!

My yarns were in a fine old tangle, too. Pulling from said tangle only worked to an extent and I fully embraced the fact of having lots of ends, and liberally snipped strands to free them up when I needed to.

I had put this jumper aside for a few days to work on the C2C blanket, because I got mildly, pleasantly fixated on that project, but I’ve returned faithfully to it now, even though it’s winding me up. So to speak.

I’m glad I did the other parts first, because I can continually tell myself l’m nearly done. And I *have* enjoyed seeing the skull appear, row by slow row. And now I’m finished the chart and on to neck shaping, before making the collar and joining the pieces together.

I’ve even sewn in the ends on the colourwork, which looked like a Lovecraftian nightmare before (and not completely unlike one after).

Not so far to go. I think this’ll be a finished object by this time next week!

I’m also taking part in the #fiberuarychallenge2024 on Instagram (I’m sure I’ll shake the odd feeling I have about spelling fibre ‘wrongly’ in no time). I hope to meet lots more yarnsters this way and it’ll be helpful with prompting more interesting insta posts, too. Pics of my daily knitting aren’t always fascinating, you know? Hope to see you over there!

As a reminder, this is Pirate’s Cutie (Ravelry link) by Shiri Mor.

Next time make smaller balls of yarn for the individual elements rather than passing the big balls over. But well done it looks terrific.

The skull is so cool–the front, definitely, but the back is so neat too! Hats off to your weaving-in-ends skills!
