Prequel | Part One

So listen… I’m usually good at sums. Honestly. But when I did the maths on how much yarn I would need to complete this jumper I was absolutely, categorically wrong.

I did think it didn’t *look* like enough but I’ve never been good at eyeballing yarn like that so mistrusted the evidence of my senses. Which as we all know is a mistake.

Anyway! Not a problem, I got a voucher for Wool Warehouse at Christmas and used a small amount of it to buy two more skeins of yarn. The dye lot is different, of course – it’s been five years or so, I couldn’t expect to get a match. We’ll just have to wait and see how different it is!

Then
Now (but upside down)

I’ve finished the side, so just a sleeve to go. If the dye lot is radically different I’m considering a rainbow sleeve? I have lots of partial skeins in DK cotton so that might work.

I haven’t been timing my work on this but have been picking it up consistently. Once the sleeve is done, I just need to seam it and do the final ends. I’ve done all the rest of the ends while waiting for the additional yarn to arrive so that’s a gift to future me.

I’ve added this post to the Unraveled Wednesday linkup, with thanks to Kat for hosting.

Love the colour. Such a nuisance when there’s not enough yarn. Hoping it works out for you.

I feel like the whole jumper was a nuisance… but then I remember that I don’t think it would have survived unravelling so the only thing to do was power through!

I have my fingers crossed that your yarn is not discernibly different!

Thank you! Always good to have a plan B but would prefer plan A to work out…

I gotta give you credit for your persistence on this jumper. Good luck with your color matching. I too am likely to have to buy more black for my Sea Glass Tee and well, matching is likely going to cause me to go down a rabbit hole or two.

Sea Glass at least is somewhat forgiving since the colours are all jumbled up and might trick the eye. My yarn arrived and it’s dustier shade (very technical, I know) so will try it out but leaning towards Plan B. Or only wearing in low light?

I hope the new yarn is a decent match โ€” you did get lucky that it wasnโ€™t discontinued!

Very lucky! It arrived today and isn’t a perfect match so I’ll try a few rows and see.

It is beautiful so far! At least if the sleeve yarn is somewhat different it’s on a reasonable part for that to happen. And a rainbow sleeve would be cute! Though hopefully the new yarn will be close enough :)

Oh I didn’t reply to this! The new yarn didn’t work out but the rainbow sleeve is cute – pics on Friday!
