Sunday Snapshot: Blog Friends?

So listen, I’d really like to follow more yarn-related bloggers. Where do you find new blogs to follow?

The Jetpack ‘discover’ feature ain’t it. I’ve been on the Insta, but I’m finding more brands and entrepreneurs than bloggers or hobbyists (some great content but I’m looking for peers as well, you know?).

The Unraveled Wednesday linkup is a good one – am I missing other linkups through the week?!

All suggestions gratefully received.

This is the sum total of this project so far

Anyway look, I’ve started my first deadline knit of the year – a kid’s sweater for a birthday in March. I’ve had several false starts because I refuse to make a swatch for this project even though I’m using a different weight of yarn. Sometimes I’m plain stubborn! But for whatever reason I’d rather knit and unravel a few rows, several times, than just knit a square.

Shall we say it’s part of my process and leave it at that?

    I found most of my fellow knitters by using WordPress reader. Start by clicking on the site of a blogger who has liked your post. Then check out the bloggers who liked that person’s post. WP Reader also has a search function. In the left-side panel, click on Search. You can search by word or phrases.

      I’ll try it on the ‘big Internet’ – I mostly use my phone (‘small Internet’) and it keeps recommending people I already follow! Thanks so much for the tip.

    Totally agree about no longer swatching. I’ve given up on flat swatches for my in the round knitting. I’d rather rip back to the collar. Keep me informed if you find knitting bloggers. I don’t like to follow folks that are selling stuff or just posting tutorials. I end up just looking at “knitting” tagged blogs to see if their knitting is consistent with my interests (no washcloth only knitters).

    There are some lovely knitters who are part of the Unraveled Wednesday group! I agree! :)

    I also have found some great knit bloggers via feedly (which is a blog reader) they offer suggestions once you plug in a few blogs.

    I’m having the same feelings about the sweater I just started! It’s When Harry Met Lucy by Paul Haesemeyer in the most recent Knitty. I love how it looks. I bought the same weight yarn. But I needed a clear head to deal with all those cables! Which I finally can now.

    So I swatched. And swatched. And swatched. 3 stockinette swatches, couldn’t get gauge. So I just cast on to see how it was going to go. Then frogged. Now I think I’m close. But it’s better than endless stockinette swatches that don’t really tell me anything! I’m stubborn, too.

    I’ve been in the Year of Projects group on Ravelry for years and that’s how I’ve found many of the blogs I follow. Like others have said before I also follow Mildly Granola, Snakes and Cranes and Quite a Yarn (all of whom I met in real life in 2022!). I also have stalked who has clicked on the Like button of different blogs and then found their blogs and some I still follow, but I did have to trim down the volume I followed when I started working part time.

      Some minor stalking seems acceptable in this context. I think part of my trouble is using the Jetpack app for WordPress, which doesn’t click through from comments – but it does for likes so that’s a great tip, thank you!

    By looking at other blogs and hoping they have a link to their faves. I’ve got some on mine, though I’m more about crochet myself, but probably follow a good mix of both knitter, crocheters and other general crafters.

    Blogs are mostly going with more regularity now as peeps settle for the instant nature of other Social Media, or run out of steam. Having typed that I still read some I’ve been reading for donkeys years. Hurray!

      I crave the words! Social media isn’t enough, I want to know all about the yarn and the process and what went well and when you wanted to their the project out the window…
