While I was cataloguing my stash, I had to face up to this abandoned project. I knew it was there but had put it out of my mind, to the extent that seeing the pattern on the front was a surprise. I don’t actually remember knitting this. I remember trying a pattern with this yarn and unraveling it all because it was doing my head in, but not remaking it into half a sweater!

I cannot find the pattern for the sweater – the one I tried first was saved to my files in May 2019, so it was around that time. I still have 116 yards of the yarn, too, which *might* be enough to finish? It doesn’t sound like a lot so perhaps not. Drops Cotton Light is still available so I can top up if I need to. I had evidently abandoned this sweater completely, because I used some of the yarn I had in a rainbow baby blanket instead, and some more in a very cute Panda Sweater (Ravelry link) by Stine Hoelgaard (Hobbii link) that I didn’t photograph when finished but here it is mostly done!

The true colour is somewhere in between this photo and the others

Anyway… I’m going to have a look at finishing it, despite the lack of pattern. The sides are just picked up and knit outwards, flat, to make a panel. Then they’re seamed together until the armpit, then the sleeves are worked out flat from there (either with short rows or decreases for shaping, tbc) and then seamed. I’m glad it was made this way because that means I’ll be able to undo it and have another go at making that seam more aesthetically appealing.

Frankenstein sleeve seam
Wobbly side seam

It does seem like it’ll fit – slightly hard to tell with it being only half done but I’m reasonably confident, especially if it blocks out. It’s quite crumply so I think I will get more width once it’s steamed. And in theory the lack of pattern isn’t a problem: the stitch definition is so sharp that I should be able to count stitches and rows easily, and it’s all stockinette.

It feels very strange to *know* that I made something but not actually recall doing it. But I guess it’s been a bit of a gift from past me? And the second half of the gift will be using up the last of that yarn and removing it from my stash catalogue!

Ahah, what a strange discovery! Before using Ravelry, I wrote everything down in a pretty notebook. Now I use Ravelry and still write down everything in a pretty notebook (people gifted me with 2 this Christmas 😺). Enjoy finishing it ✨

I’m extremely organised in other aspects of life – but I’ve always been more freestyle with my knitting. It’s part of the reason I started a blog, to keep more of a track of what I’m making and how I’m making it!

That is a fun discovery and kudos for you in finishing it. If I found something like that and didn’t have the pattern it would get tossed. Love the panda sweater 😀

The pandas were so cute 😊 I think because it’s so simple I’ll just go ahead and finish it off, even if I end up donating it that’s better than wasting the yarn and energy it took to get this far!

I had several of “those” sweaters in my stash… sigh. I frogged every last one of them! I have found that when I have entirely forgotten the sweater, it means that something was not working quite right. I hope what you decide will result in a sweater you will wear and love!

Even if I end up donating it once it’s made, it’s still out of my stash and that’s a good enough outcome 😁

The photos make it look somewhat more pink than it really is, it’s a lovely rich red 😊

Oh goodness. Uhh, I could definitely see myself putting aside a project and then forgetting it. That’s part of the reason I use my daily calendar that lists all the projects I have on needles. I can’t drop it from the list till it comes off the needles even if it goes into timeout/hibernation.

That’s very smart! I knew there was *something* hibernating but I’d very much put it to the back of my mind. Denial is a powerful thing.

I’d forgotten some finished items until I found them while packing for our move to our current place, so a UFO being forgotten is not so surprising to me, haha! I love how you consider it a gift from past you. The color is striking, and the pattern is just lovely. Waiting to see it finished!

Glad to confirm it’s not just me! I have two other UFOs where I know exactly what they are (and they’ll be getting unravelled) but this one being so nearly finished was a big surprise!

Well the yarn is gorgeous and if you find out your are not really feeling the sweater you could unravel and make something that calls to you :-)

I *could* do – though I’ve just unravelled the side/sleeve seam and the yarn got ever so splitty and grumpy so probably best to go forward!
