Prequel | Part One | Part Two

Then
Now

It is very much looking like a real garment now! I will confess that we have reached the ‘it will never be done’ phase. You know, where you look at it and think ‘this is staying the same size no matter how much knitting I do and I will have to knit it for all eternity’?

This is, of course, nonsense. I’ve made most of a sweater in a week and a half – that’s a pretty good pace. I’ve tried it on to establish how much more length I want and, at time of writing, I need six more inches on the body and nine on the sleeves. The last inch of each will be plain purple, and the three inches of sleeve once the body is done will be nice and quick since they’re so small.

Please engage your ‘ignore background mess’ filter for this one. And your ‘pretend there’s natural daylight’ filter. And your ‘I’m sure that’s not dust on the mirror’ filter…

Then I just have to reckon with the seams and sew in a very few ends, and we’re done! There’s another couple of weeks work in it, if I’m not much mistaken.

As an aside from this project, I took it into my head to catalogue my yarn on new year’s eve – I got most of it done that afternoon, and finished up on new year’s day. Friends, I have over 9kg in my stash. This is excessive. When I think of the fact that the sweater I’m making now will only use about 600g of yarn it makes me feel a bit overwhelmed. Like… should I just make 15 Sea Glass in this size and that’ll be my project for the year?

I have used considerable amounts of yarn in this sweater, despite the bags still seeming quite full

Actually that’s helped a little. 15 sweaters is only a few years’ work based on last year’s rate of making. Perhaps it’s possible to use it all up in my lifetime after all… Though with that said I haven’t counted the yarns in this project bag and as you can from the pic above, some will definitely be going back in to stash!

Never mind all that – look at these pretty colours!

This is a Sea Glass Sweater (Ravelry link) by Wool & Pine (Designerโ€™s site). I’ve added this post to the first Unraveled Wednesday linkup of the year, with many thanks to Kat for hosting!

The sweater is turning out stunning! I had made an inventory of my yarn at one time and was surprised to find just how much I had; I should do that again. I found it was a huge help when trying to decide what projects to make because at the time (and now again) I was trying not to buy any new yarn so it helped me get really creative with picking projects based on what was already in my collection.

Thank you! That’s the hope – that I can be inspired by what I already have and choose appropriate patterns. Will definitely be looking for more stash busters after this one!

Thank you! I really should have invested more time into a better photo but let’s face it, I’d rather be knitting ๐Ÿ˜

Your Sea Glass looks great!! Hang in there. It is tough to slog through to the end.

Thank you! I always try to find a way to trick myself into thinking it’s almost done… ‘Just 21 rows of body’ feels very quick – if you ignore that I still need to do the hem and finish the sleeves after that ๐Ÿ˜

Ooh I looked up the seaglass pattern once and didn’t like it at all, the photos make it look so messy, but yours is lovely.

Oh thank you so much! I’m enjoying it, and considering a black/white/grey version later in the year.

How beautiful is this ! I did a stash busting year last year, and have halved my stash. This year Iโ€™m only buying for specific projects and reasons, again using the stash yarn first where possible.

I haven’t bought random yarn in ages, I do have a small purchase in mind but hope I can get 1kg out the door over the next few months with the projects I have planned!

The sweater is looking great! But I must say that undoubtedly you will buy more yarn along the way, so you math does not work for using up all your stash!!

I can do it! I can do without buying new yarn!

      Unless there’s a sale or I find a pattern I just can’t wait to make, of course… ๐Ÿ˜‰
