Prequel | Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four

Then
After casting off
Now

We made it! I finished casting off, then soaked and blocked last night after working on it off and on all day (including in the car when we went out to run errands).

I really like how the black wing tips look – and I got to finally make the large size as written! I made amendments in the last two versions and really wanted to see just how huge the full pattern was.

The first Wingspan I made needed just over six blocking boards at its widest. The second needed eight. This version needed a full ten! Look at the difference in size between the first and last.

This will keep my mum nice and cosy, whether as a shawl or a lap blanket. I really hope she loves it.

If this is the first of these posts you’ve read, this is Wingspan (Ravelry link) by VectorKnits (Designerโ€™s site). Iโ€™m knitting it in Scheepjes Whirl (Scheepjes website) in Blackcurrant Squeeze Me. It took me four weeks and two days of knitting to complete.

It’s a pretty special pattern, and to be honest my mum loves pretty much anything you give her just because you gave her it!

Ooh this is such a gorgeous shawl!! The black tips do add that oomph to it; little things like yarn shortcomings can sometimes be so fortuitous. :-)

Completely agree – the wing tips are technically wrong but actually very, very right ๐Ÿ˜Š
