I finally finished my Leafy Mitts to go with my Topographical Scarf.

They were pretty much done weeks and weeks ago, but one felt bigger than the other… so I stretched them out nice and long and blocked them that way. The effect was that they were a smidge too long, then, and didn’t sit neatly round my fingers or wrist. I had a bit of a think about that, and I tried threading some elastic through, but wasn’t delighted with it even then.
And then I thought, well, what about a crochet edge? It’ll tighten them up *and* even out the edges. And that was a great idea! I’m much happier with them now.

After the mitts, I still had yarn in my chosen colours left over, and you know I enjoy a marl… So I paired the variegated, centrepiece yarn with each of the other colours until they were all used up. I very much freestyled the pattern – I cast on 80, ribbed for a couple of inches, knit straight in garter until it looked like enough, then did decreses at unspecified intervals (I mean, I did specify them at the time to keep it even but who knows now?) until I had a handful of stitches left, which I ran the working yarn through and pulled tight. One clumsy seam later and I had a hat!

I love that it uses all the same colours in a non-matchy way (the scarf and mitts are plenty of matching), and love that it’s *kind* of come out as a gradient. Not really, but kind of. It was quite pointy off the needles, and I soaked then blocked it into a rounder shape.

I’m so pleased to have used up this amount of stash, it feels like a great achievement. Now I just need to choose my next project. I’m eyeing up Daft Days (Ravelry link) by Rebecca Clow (YouTube link), as recommended by Knitting is so Fun!
