I decided to go ahead and cast on some mitts to match my Topographical Scarf. It was a last minute, ‘I’m going for a train NOW and need some knitting’ decision, and my project bag was still to hand so in the handbag it went.

I worked on them for a couple of hours before realising that I just wasn’t into the way I’d put the colours together. The mid-green is lovely and soft, but not my fave of the bunch. Plus the variegated wasn’t getting a chance to shine as the line colour. So out it all came!

Not loving the colours

Another three-ish hours of work and I was done with the bulk of the first one, and much happier with the result. I think it needs the grey/blue to lift it. A bit like adding citrus to cooking, you know? The analogy makes sense to me, anyway.

I was hoping to have enough of the lime green to do both thumbs, since there was only a scrap left, but the thumbs are more complicated than I expected! So I’ve done half (I guessed at the half way mark and think I got it about right) of one, making the rest in the variegated yarn, and we’ll see how I get on with the second one.

I did join the new colour on the wrong side but not to worry
How cute is the wee thumb?!

As I always say to others, a mismatched pair has more character anyway.

Just a thousand ends to sew in…

I’ve added this post to the Unraveled Wednesday linkup, with thanks to Kat for hosting.

Those are fantastic! And your analogy made perfect sense to me. The lead needs some support, regardless of the medium. Love these!

The lead needs some support – exactly correct and beautifully phrased!

One of my colleagues and I have talked many times about how we have no interest in being the “lead singer” at work, we’re quite content to be the “chorus girls” because we’re good at it.

Thank you! I have to say, though, I haven’t picked this project up since Monday night. But it’s a quick and compelling knit so chances are I’ll knock out the second one in a session over the weekend.
