Part 1

My scarf is coming on in leaps and bounds (or rows and… flows…?). This is especially true when one considers that I put it aside for a few days to work on my Doctor Who scarf, and also to start another African Flower Octopus to be put up for sale at the upcoming craft fair.

I’ve nearly finished nine of the ten coloured stripes, one more of those then the edging to go! And that edge is just four rows of garter stitch.

My handmade stitch markers are helping me keep track and making me feel happy in the process. Using a thing you’ve made yourself is so satisfying, isn’t it? I did drop one on the train so that’s lost forever. No amount of standing up to check the seat, then sitting down to squint at the floor helped me find it. I had to stop in case my fellow travellers thought I was doing some kind of callisthenics and joined in.

I’ve woven in most of the ends as I’ve gone along, though I do have a few that were forgotten, or created by cutting the yarn. Both the dark green and the khaki yarns had to be snipped and rejoined at one point – I forget why, probably a knot in the yarn that was too big to hide on the reverse.

Once I’m finished with the scarf, I’m going to use the remaining yarn in these colours to make mitts (Ravelry link) or a hat (Ravelry link) from the same designer. Do you think all three would be too matchy-matchy? I think it might be. Maybe if I swap the colours round so the main is a stripe instead that’ll mix things up sufficiently.

I don’t want to put any of these yarns back into stash, not even into the scraps jar, if I can help it. Equally though, I have no idea at present if there will be enough of them to make the next item. I’ll weigh the yarns up when I’m done here and we’ll see – it looks like the hat only needs 80g in total so I hope it all works out!

As a reminder, this is the Topographical Scarf (Ravelry link) by MarinJa Knits (Designer’s site). I’ve added this post to the Unraveled Wednesday linkup, with thanks to Kat for hosting.

It’s turning out sooooo beautiful! It has a very “leafy” kind of vibe to it, and I say go for the match-y! Changing which colors are more predominant in the hat/mitts would make them complement each other very well.

Yeah it is very leafy! I like it! I think semi-matchy might be the way… or maybe one accessory semi-matchy and one plainer in pattern but in the same colour scheme.

This is gorgeous knitting. I’m not a ‘matchy’ person–but just because you knit them both (or all) doesn’t mean you have to wear them together, right? (I can appreciate not wanting leftovers.)

This is very true, they can be worn with other, simpler items to let them stand out. Determined to use up all the yarn if I can 😁

Your colors are beautiful. I like the idea of a matching hat. Not too sure about the matching mitts.

Funny enough I’m leaning more mitts than hat! Will continue to mull over.

This looks better each time I see it. And (don’t laugh) but the ‘wavy sea’ effect I saw previously has now morphed into ‘leafy green suburban footpaths’😊.
I’d go for the fingerless mitts – yours fingers would still be free enough to feel and caress your latest knit. Might be a bit awkward trying to hold the needles though

A nice man on the bus yesterday said ‘good luck with your landscape’ as he was leaving. So you’re not the only one to see something interesting in the pattern!

I’ve never tried to knit while wearing mitts. I mean, it rhymes, so that’s a fun start 😁

I would go totally matchy-matchy, but then I’m obsessed with green. Good luck using up all the yarn, I’m sure you’ll find a way.

I’m on a train today and have brought all the scraps to start something… just haven’t decided what yet!
