I made a larger version of Wingspan, using Scheepjes Whirl in liquorice. This was a superb yarn choice and, if I hadn’t taken out a section at the start of the yarn, it would have been enough for me to make the full size pattern. As it is, I had to unravel a bit so I had enough yarn to bind off. But still, it’s significantly bigger than my last one, and I’m just as delighted with it.

Larger Wingspan on its own
And with my first effort overlaid to show size difference

I knew it would be bigger as I skipped a whole repeated section when making the first one. Even though it’s a complex pattern, I have taken liberties with which sections to repeat, or where to stop, and it’s worked out great!

I do recommend it! It’s a lot of work and the bind off is a tricky business, but it’s very beautiful when it’s finished.

Thank you! I totally agree that they are beautiful items. I do prefer the larger size and *much* preferred that yarn, too. It was easier to work with and softer when finished.

I’ve actually just started a third, by request, in a different gradient so looking forward to seeing how that comes out!
