So listen… I can’t verify the two hour claim. I made these a couple of times when I was still new to knitting so my speed wasn’t what it is now. I can verify that it’s a great free pattern – with one correction, unless I’ve been misunderstanding the pattern. The palm section is a row of knits, row of purls, and then knits again. But the increase row directly after is also a knit row, which would leave a ridge that doesn’t appear in the picture of the finished mitts. So switch ‘k’s for ‘p’s from the thumb increase section onwards if you make them.

You will note that I also had yet to learn how to seam properly. I didn’t learn mattress stitch until last year! This was my first step into colour work – I recall wanting to do zig zags but not knowing how (and deciding against Googling it, evidently). And the first time I put stitches on hold during a project.

Here the recipient is modelling them, with matching nails

One of my friends has always liked teal. She was teal, and I was purple. We have Le Creuset teapots that we bought each other, in our respective colours. So when I was looking for a new project in my early fervour (which hasn’t abated), I was drawn to some teal yarn, along with grey, probably in the pound shop.

The pattern calls for worsted but I made it in DK, which worked really well for my skinny wrists but was a wee bit tight on the thumb, so take note. I just didn’t look at suggested yarn in the early days?? I didn’t get it at all. But it worked out well on this occasion. Might have been a bit smaller if I’d done a proper seam I guess?

I also look to have extended the cuff considerably. The pattern suggests three inches but this looks like four or five – I like a nice long glove, it’s like a hug for your arm. The pattern doesn’t give expected yardage but it’s only a little project, and good for odds and ends if you do stripes!

I’d love to hear if anyone has made these and timed the process. I keep planning to make another set and not quite getting round it… I’m not inspired to add it in to the queue but it’s nice to know it’s there if I need a quick gift knit.

Oooh, thanks for the new item in my queue! Gloves are not so practical (for me) with a small human and dog, but my hands got rather uncomfortably frozen a few timesast winter, so these may be what I need. I might make a few since I sense they may be in and out of the wash a lot with these two crazies I have ๐Ÿ˜‚.
I like the teal and grey together – very pretty. I like the longer cuff too.

They’re good for those of us who always seem to be doing something with our hands! I’ve had a few over the years but have ended up giving them to folk I encounter who need them more – they’re such a quick project it feels easy to share them out!

I only ever make puns by accident. I cannot think of them in the moment and they make me cross because I’m not good at them!

I have a good friend, 65+, who NEVER considers the weight of yarn called for in a pattern. After 5+ years of participating in our knitting group — which she organized, bless her heart — she has learned to bring her newest project pattern for the rest of us to tell her what yarn to use. She also thinks gauge swatches are spawn of the devil and doesn’t bother with them… until she told me she had bought yarn (worsted, just as the pattern called for — all our teaching was not in vane) and I told her that to be sure the sweater would fit, she absolutely, positively had to make a gauge swatch, It took three swatches on different needles to get it right, and she cursed me the entire time. But the d*mned sweater fit perfectly!

This is a great story! Absolutely furious about swatching, which by the way I totally identify with, but hopefully delighted by the result – and what a nice community it sounds like you have, helping each other out and making sure they make good choices ๐Ÿ˜ It’s funny to look back and think ‘I really didn’t understand the most simple principles of knitting…’ but I was having a lovely time.
