Then
Now

I bought the amount of yarn directed in the pattern for a size M, but I’m dubious about its ability to reach the end of the project. No issues with the Kidsilk (I expected to have lots left over, so that’s alright) but I’m in to my last ball of Alpaca Classic. Just the sleeves are left to do, so it might work out OK?

My plan is to work the sleeves simultaneously so that I can keep track of it and either make them shorter, or order more if needed. I can also make the sleeves narrower than the pattern, as a quick try-on indicated that I could probably have gone a size down quite comfortably, so that’ll save some. However, since I’ve been cutting the yarn between stripes there’s no going back and remaking!

Please disregard the laundry

I expected a neater fit based on measurements, but a relaxed fit will be just fine instead. With that said, the body looks short, but I know it’ll grow once washed and blocked. I’ve also sewed in the ends with good results.

There have been a couple of dropped stitches that I’ve stitched back in with spare yarn, but otherwise it’s been bog standard end finishing. I tried duplicate stitch where there were bigger gaps but the Kidsilk is so fine that duplicates were immediately obvious. I’m delighted with how well its finished, to the point where I can’t really tell where the start of row is once the ends are done.

Before
After

It’s been a nice project but I find my mind wandering… I still have to start the Mysterious stitch sweater and since it’s a commission, can’t really procrastinate any longer on that. Another really helpful comment came in this week so I’ll see where that gets me! I also have the Who scarf to start, and I’m working on another Wingspan (and enjoying it thoroughly) but you know you sometimes get a wandering eye even when you have a full compliment of knitting on the roster? Well, that.

As a reminder, this is the Promenade blouseย (Ravelry link) pattern byย Caidreeย (Designerโ€™s site) in Rowan Alpaca Classic in Noir, and Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Aura.

I’ve added this post to Unraveled Wednesday, with thanks to Kat for hosting!

Ah yes, yarn chicken. Is any project truly fulfilling without at least one round of yarn chicken?. Personally, it doesn’t feel right if I haven’t held my breath and closed my eyes on a project, praying that the yarn will make it ๐Ÿคฃ. Promenade is looking great.

Oooh the mystery stitch! The hair-pulling, maddening mystery stitch. Do you think the case has been cracked??

I think it’ll be easier to figure out in the round, and I can at least start the bottom ribbing and go from there!

This is the first time I’ve had yarn chicken from a pattern, I guess I’m a tight knitter usually? Like with Wingspan I had yarn to spare!

I think your idea of simultaneous sleeves is smart so that length can be adjusted to accommodate your yarn amount!

It is so cute! I think if you don’t have enough for long sleeves, I think 3/4 sleeves would be lovely!

I think so too – I don’t enjoy a cap sleeve but I’m already well beyond that stage! It’s cute and even if the body’s not as long as my usual preference, it could be good with a high waisted trouser.

Ooh, I like this a lot! And I could see it looking great with short sleeves, too, if you lose at yarn chicken :-)

I think so too! Even a wee half sleeve would be cute.

It looks really good! Your finishing is great – you really smoothed out the stripe transitions!

Thank you! I’m really pleased with that part. I’m getting dreadful laddering on my sleeves though from the magic loop so will have to take more drastic measures, perhaps.

That is some impressive end sewing, what a difference it made! I must learn that trick

Thank you! I just did what I usually do with the dark yarn – sewing in the back of the stitches – but with the fine yarn I gave it a tug to tighten, looped across the top of the stitch if needed, then just looped along through the back of the stitches where the colours joined. Worked like a charm!
