Looks to me like a row of purls, then row of knits, then a left twist (https://www.purlsoho.com/create/right-and-left-twist/), then another plain row, then another left twist, another row plain, and then repeat.

It’s possible there’s a yo been twists in the first row that gets dropped at the end to leave the space in between, but I don’t think so.

I haven’t seen those twists before, that looks likely! I think there’s got to be a yarn over at the top though to make that gap…

Thank you so much, I appreciate you taking the time to mull it over 😁

It looks to me like planned dropped stitches (think Knitty’s Clapotis but on a smaller scale)

** and the stitches between look like a tiny cable…

They do look like tiny cables accompanied by dropped stitches – but my practice swatches are too loose when I combine those things 🤔 I think maybe a twisted stitch but I also think it decreases from three at the bottom to two in the middle then back out to three – and the increase must be a yarn over to give that defined triangular gap??

Not a clue, but I’ll go search the books and Pinterest boards, and keep you posted if I find anything 🕵️‍♀️

Bless you – I’ve been doing a lot of Googling I have to say, alongside trial and error. I’ll be happy if I can get to an approximation!

Well, there’s a right-side purl row, and alternating rows of k2tog, yo with rows of ssk, yo, plus a few stitches around them and the yarnovers being dropped. But how you’d keep the number of stitches while doing those drops I haven’t figured out yet just from looking at it. Good luck!

Oh thank you so much! I’ll have a go at this and see where it gets me.
