This is very much a non-knitting post. Be aware that I’m about to properly nerd out over a craft project and get right into the weeds of detail.
So we’ve had a look at the two main features of the shoes (Part One: The Badges | Part Two: Polos ร Go-Go). I’ll round up the last few bits and pieces here, which are pretty straightforward.

The safety pins and chain reflect the safety pins and chain on Vince’s Zooniverse jacket. In other pictures you may notice a row of diamantรฉs on the opposite side to the site Polos – they’re inspired by studs he wears across his shoulder. You can see those below, along with the shiny ‘noir’ letters he’s cut out and stuck on his pocket.

I bought some holographic sticky paper for the ‘noir’ lettering – and I went ahead and used it to do raggedy lightning bolts on the inside of each shoe, too. Lightning turns up in a lot of places in the Boosh, and is almost certainly Bowie inspired but more homemade. I like the freedom you can find in deliberately not trying to make something perfect, just going for it with enthusiasm and excitement.

I drew a couple more lightning bolts on the heel of each, with a white paint marker. Then I added a border of wonky skull sketches round the soles,ย inspired by those drawn on the camper van and, if I remember right,ย on the DVD cover. Finally, a Boosh monkey on one toe, and on the other,ย ย a skull sketch from Vince’s costume in the Fountain of Youth episode. He’s wearing an extravagant white cowboy outfit with a variety of original art on the jacket and hat. An inspiration, sure enough.

I hope it’s been of some interest to someone! I’m glad to have made these after a long time thinking about doing it. I had thought I’d paint more than I did – there was more accessorising than decorating. So I’d certainly consider doing it again if inspiration struck, and trying different techniques – but I wouldn’t wait so long another time.
