Friends, I have been away. But I have returned! And I have returned with an adorable pal, this little red dragon.

He was made to the same pattern as this dragon friend… except not. Once again I made him sitting up, not lying down as per the pattern. I also added an extra increase (and corresponding decrease) row to his head and body to make him a bit bigger.

His wings are soft and fold themselves over. I crocheted them to the pattern but as this is a gift for a child, I didn’t want to put wire in them. So they flap and flop around which, let’s face it, wings should do a bit of, anyway.
He’s made of Drops Cotton Light, and he finished up my entire stash of that yarn! And that made me feel excited about stash busting again! I used a 3.5mm hook. The black is Cotton Kings and I only have 18g of that left, now. I think I used a 3mm hook for the wings to try and give them structure? This was only a few days ago but I simply can’t remember.

His eyes are round beads – I made indents first to help with placement, then sewed them on with black thread. The toy isn’t for a baby, so we’re not concerned about choking hazards.
We’re not going to talk about my beads stash. There’s a lot of great stuff in there just waiting for its time to shine. I bought myself a new tool this week – I haven’t done any jewellery making in ages but I thought ‘once I have this tool I’ll be unstoppable!’. Alas, it has not been taken from the packaging.

This dragon and the highland cow are to be presents for brothers who live opposite my mum. I hope that they are loved, and played with, and they get a bit loose and raggedy like Dragony before them. That’s how a toy should be.
This is a modified Baby Dragon Amigurumi (Ravelry link) by Lily Columbe (designer’s Facebook). The direct link to the original pattern is here.
I’ve added this post to the Unraveled Wednesday linkup, with thanks to Kat for hosting.
