Prequel | Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four
I’ve added this post to the Unraveled Wednesday linkup, with thanks to Kat for hosting.

So close to a finish on this, but not today! Just the second sleeve to wrap up (measurements were received to allow me to judge the size appropriately), ends to sew in, then I’ll add a bit more to the collar ribbing.
The pattern I’m using as a guide suggested 6cm of neckband. I stopped at three, but now that the sleeves are joined the shape is totally different. The drop shoulder pulls everything sideways. So some extra neckband will make for a better fit, neater to the actual neck, and I’ll use a smaller needle size to make it suitably snug.
I’ve been able to assess this by trying it on – the sweater is fitted to my frame, so should have nice ease on the recipient without being shapeless. Unfortunately, trying it on has left a red residue from my hair dye! It’s not super obvious in the photos but very noticeable in person. I expect a wash to take it out – it works for my towels and pillowcases so here’s hoping.

Adding the sleeves has also shortened the body somewhat, as the sleeve hole was very generous. I like how it looks – there’s a hint of batwing about it. The original reference piece was a cropped jumper so I’m pleased to have approximated the right length through a mix of educated guesswork and good luck.
I’ve used a twisted rib for hem, collar and cuff – it seemed fitting with the rest of the pattern. For reasons I’m not clear on, though, I’ve done alternating rows of twisted and standard rib. It was an active choice that I made, I’m just not really sure why I made it. Just to see what happened, I think. That sounds like me.

I’m a little anxious about how it will wash and iron – it’s certainly quite soft and bouncy which is nice to wear but doesn’t show off the pattern so well. The finished sleeve as it stands is quite wobbly so I will pay particular attention to that area and block if necessary.
This time next week, I’ll have a finished jumper! After all this time! I really do hope it turns out OK.
